Vinnies School Sleepout

Sleepout

On any given night in Australia, nearly 1 in 208 people are experiencing homelessness.

Briar Road Public School is always committed to giving our students meaningful experiences. During Term 2 our Year 6 students participated in the Vinnies School Sleepout, which was held in our Library.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing empathy, compassion, and social responsibility in our students. The Vinnies School Sleepout is an event designed to give students a small glimpse into the harsh realities faced by those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage in our community.

On the night of the Sleepout, students braved the cold, reflecting on what it means to go without the comforts of home. Through discussions and activities, they also learnt more about the issues that contribute to homelessness.

We were very fortunate to have Patrick  who is a volunteer from St Vincent de Paul speak to our students about the challenges of homlessness and what we can do as a school to help.

We believe this experience will have a lasting impact on our students, helping them to better understand the importance of compassion and community support.

We would like to thank our school community for your kind donations. and helping make a difference in the lives of others.
