Languages

In NSW primary schools, the study of a language is optional.

Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies and reflect on their understanding of social interactions.

The Dharawal language program is run weekly at Briar Road Public School. We feel very fortunate to work with the Gujaga Foundation who are revitalising Dharawal language and sharing it with students and staff at Briar Road. Maali and Tarli do a fantastic job connecting with the students weekly and teaching them about body parts, animals, frequently used phrases and songs all in Dharawal language. Briar Road feel privileged to work alongside Bradley and Lowana to have such a great initiative in our school.
