Lest we forget

ANZAC DAY

Today at Briar Road we held our ANZAC Day commemoration service in Harmony Park in front of the flag posts. Our school leaders - Laelana, Oscar, Noah, Caleb, Desire and Braydan, did a wonderful job of explaining the significance of the day and why we pay our respect not only to those original ANZAC’s, but to all who died or served in the war.

Our special guest was Chris Jones, a veteran and representative of the City of Campbelltown RSL. Chris addressed the students and spoke about his experiences in the armed service and the importance of the day. Our wreath was presented and laid and students from each class presented poppies and sprigs of rosemary to symbolise commemoration and remembrance. Brayden recited The Ode and Hollinez, Billy and Tempe recited it in Te reo Maori.

Briar Road students respectfully paused for the Last Post, minute silence and the raising of the Australian flag. We concluded the service with the New Zealand and Australian national anthems. A special thank you to Miss Thomas's father  Damien Thomas for sharing his Australian Army uniforms with our Briar students today as well.

Lest we forget!
