Harmony Day

Hday

Harmony Day

On Tuesday the 19th of March Briar Road PS celebrated Harmony Day. The message for Harmony Day is 'Everyone Belongs' and it is a day to celebrate multiculturalism, diversity, inclusiveness, respect for all cultures and a sense of belonging for everyone.

To celebrate the day, students wore their cultural dress or the colour orange. Orange is the official colour of Harmony Week and signifies social communication and freedom of ideas. It was wonderful to see so many different cultures and traditions being represented on the day.

Parents, carers and community were invited to attend a recess picnic in Harmony Park. Flags and paper doll artworks that students created in class were displayed, showcasing and celebrating the diversity of our students and community.

After the picnic, we held our Harmony Day assembly. Students from the Koori Dance Group and Tasman Sea School gave an amazing performance; as did Mr Heron, Harper and Jayla with their recitation of a traditional Scottish poem and Anisa and Ayline with their Bengali dance. These students were incredibly talented. We thank them sharing a part of their culture with us. Lawrence, Donald, Marlee and Tempe showed Briar Brilliance when they performed our Harmony Day rap verses, written by ex-student Kaylan Bishop, and all students joined in with the chorus and actions.

We are proud to have a diverse school community with so many different traditions, beliefs, languages and cultures.
