Today we were very fortunate to have Brent Kerehona visit our school today. Brent has a decorated resume, he is an author, educator and cultural facilitator who has travelled around the world sharing his cultural experiences.
Our students learnt about the practice and significance of Maori weaving also known as raranga. Raranga is a plaiting technique used for making baskets and mats out of the native New Zealand plant known as Harakeke.
Brent used strands from the Harakeke plant to create a decorative flower that each student could create and take home with them.
On behalf of Briar Road PS Tēnā koe Brent for the awesome mahi we look forward to seeing you in the near future.
